Nick Sturman

Nick worked at a general stone dealers shop in Hatton Garden, UK, where he earned his FGA diploma in 1985 and diamond diploma (DGA) the following year. He subsequently learnt of a position at the Gem & Pearl Testing Laboratory of Great Britain which he was lucky enough to secure and moved to his new position in the laboratory in 1987. Over the first few years in the laboratory he specialised in pearl identification and in 1992 was given a chance to assist the Gem & Pearl Testing Laboratory of Bahrain in its services to the trade and public. As advisor to the laboratory he helped raise the profile of the Bahrain laboratory in the region and continued testing pearls, which is the laboratory's main work. In 1996 he was offered the opportunity to continue as an independent advisor to the Bahrain Laboratory which he accepted and where he continues to work to this day. He assisted in the production of the book entitled "Treasures of Bahrain" and has written a few notes on items submitted for identification in the Bahrain Laboratory in the Journal of Gemmology.
