Alice Keller joined GIA 24 years ago from a publishing background to redesign and refocus GIA's quarterly professional journal, Gems & Gemology. Under her direction, G&G has become the world's leading source of research on new gem localities, treatments, synthetics, and identification techniques. The recipient of several editorial and printing awards, in February 2004 G&G was accepted into the database of the Institute for Scientific Information, the premier international database of scientific publications.
A graduate of Cornell University (B.A.) and Georgetown University (M.A.), Alice has written several articles for G&G, edited two books, and lectured worldwide. She was co-chairperson of the 1999 International Gemological Symposium, and has been named co-chair of the upcoming August 2006 IGS.
Alice has received the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the colored stone industry and the Women’s Jewelry Association Award for excellence in publishing. In 2003, she was presented the Richard T. Liddicoat Award for Distinguished Achievement, GIA’s highest honor.
