Edward Boehm
Edward Boehm is a colored stone dealer and consultant from San Diego, California. Grandson of his namesake, Edward J. Gübelin, he spent the summers of his youth with his grandfather in Lucerne, Switzerland, piquing his curiosity of things crystalline and sparkly, and paving his way toward an adventurous career in gemology. After graduating in Geology from UNC, Chapel Hill, Edward was encouraged by his grandfather to study at the GIA and completed his G.G. in 1988.After working in Los Angeles for several years, Mr. Boehm returned to Switzerland to work with the Gübelin Gem Lab in gem identification and research. He also worked for the renowned colored gemstone firm of Pala International for five years before venturing out on his own in 1996. His company, JOEB Enterprises & Laboratory Services, specializes in high end and collectable gemstones. Edward has helped build several important gem and mineral collections and has been a museum consultant to GIA since 1999. He is an active member of AGTA, AGS, the GIA Alumni Association, and is a US Ambassador for the ICA.
Mr. Boehm has had numerous articles published in Gems&Gemology, and has been featured in JCK, Colored Stone, Jewelry News Asia, Robb Report and In Focus magazines. His current work takes him to mining localities throughout the world, where he challenges his skills with portable gemological equipment and develops techniques necessary for the traveling gemologist.
